To this day, the only treatment that I have received is medication to relieve pain. Every two weeks, $300 is spent at the Pharmacist. I take high levels of…

Can you do what Jesus wants?

John 6:1-14John 6:1-14
English: World English Bible - WEB

6 1 After these things, Jesus went away to the other side of the sea of Galilee, which is also called the Sea of Tiberias. 2 A great multitude followed him, because they saw his signs which he did on those who were sick. 3 Jesus went up into the mountain, and he sat there with his disciples. 4 Now the Passover, the feast of the Jews, was at hand. 5 Jesus therefore lifting up his eyes, and seeing that a great multitude was coming to him, said to Philip, “Where are we to buy bread, that these may eat?” 6 This he said to test him, for he himself knew what he would do. 7 Philip answered him, “Two hundred denarii worth of bread is not sufficient for them, that everyone of them may receive a little.” 8 One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, said to him, 9 “There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish, but what are these among so many?” 10 Jesus said, “Have the people sit down.” Now there was much grass in that place. So the men sat down, in number about five thousand. 11 Jesus took the loaves; and having given thanks, he distributed to the disciples, and the disciples to those who were sitting down; likewise also of the fish as much as they desired. 12 When they were filled, he said to his disciples, “Gather up the broken pieces which are left over, that nothing be lost.” 13 So they gathered them up, and filled twelve baskets with broken pieces from the five barley loaves, which were left over by those who had eaten. 14 When therefore the people saw the sign which Jesus did, they said, “This is truly the prophet who comes into the world.”

There was a day in Jesus’ life when he sailed across the sea to get some much needed rest (Let’s say Palm Springs).  Jesus’ popularity was at an all time high because of all the miracles that people saw. No doubt he was tired.

Some people saw Jesus get in a boat and cross the sea. Rather than letting him get his rest, they pack up and walked around the lake (or desert if I hooked you on the Palm Springs idea).  On their pilgrimage they pick up more people until the crowd was about 5000 people.

Here’s where the story gets very interesting.

fishandfiveloavesecard-main_Full Jesus sees this massive crowd coming his way and casually turns to Philip, one of the disciples, and tells him to get the food ready. “They will be hungry and so we must feed them.” Philip simply responds, “Sorry Jesus, it’s not in the budget and we’re broke. We would have to work 8 months to save up that kind of money. It can’t be done.”

A ponder moment: Jesus asked for something to be done. Philip’s first point of consideration was his wallet. “Am I capable of doing this?” He failed Jesus because he could not look forward in faith. Philip’s math could not accommodate Jesus’ request.

Back to the story: Luckily there were a few other disciples right there and with faith vision found a boy with a lunch.  Jesus used that faith to satisfy his request.

Here’s my point: We often call upon the powers of faith when we’re in the middle of trouble.  Jesus’ lesson was that we must approach every day with faith and plan out our day in faith. Approach every Jesus-request with faith vision.

The challenge: What’s in your future that you should plan with faith-vision rather than your ability-vision? In faith you can satisfy Jesus’ requests?
