What if…I just add Jesus to my life
Matthew 21:1–27
It seems easy enough. Just add Jesus to the equation of my life. My interests + my friends + Jesus + my family + going to Church + my career = a Christian life made easy. That way I get my life and heaven too.
There was a day in Jesus life when he entered the temple courts in Jerusalem and saw people that were continuing their lives as usual. The only difference was that they had added religion to their lives but even this was for their own gain. “Being part of this crowd can only be to my benefit” was likely on some of their minds.
Not much has changed over the years. We are content to be part of the Christian crowd for lots of reasons. Our friends might be there, it’s a good things for the kids, I’ve done it all my life and why change now. I like the music and even the Pastor has some good things to say about life. Basically, my life + Jesus.
My statements may seem a bit harsh but I’ve done so intentionally. The story in Matthew 21 demonstrated how Jesus became enraged to see people using the Passover Celebration for personal gain. The core motive for being there was for their own interests. It kind of reminds me of people that attend a church because it satisfies their own interests. Some even align themselves with a church because it will give them an edge in their market.
Here’s my point: Being a Christian means making Jesus Lord of your life. Your life belongs to Christ and you radically change your motives and focus to align with His.
Jesus said, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind…and then ‘Love your neighbour as yourself” (Mathew 22:37-39).
What’s clenched in your fist?
